Diabetes Part 1: Testing Your Blood Sugar

Hey,

Today I'd like to talk about blood sugar. Even at a young age, you
should be weary of elevated sugar (glucose) levels.

There are a number of ways to test your sugar level.

Here are a few of the most common.

*FBS - Fasting Blood Sugar
This test measures your blood sugar after you have not eaten for 8
hours. This test is often used to check for diabetes.

*2-hour Postprandial Blood Sugar
This tests your blood sugar exactly two hours after a meal.

*RBS - Random Blood Sugar
This test is the most common. Testing your sugar randomly is useful
because healthy individuals often do not see much variance in their
levels.

*Oral Glucose Tolerance Test
This is used to test for prediabetes and diabetes. This test is
taken after drinking a sweet liquid that contains glucose. The oral
test is often used to test for diabetes during pregnancy.

Simply put, glucose tests are used to test for, diagnose, and
monitor your glucose levels.

Next week we'll talk about how you can prevent diabetes. Keep an
eye out for the next installment.
