A big question with a simple answer
Hey,
It has been suggested time and time again that medical and surgical
abortions make it more difficult and often times impossible to get
pregnant again because of damage done to the uterine wall.
According to numerous sources, though, this has been very quickly
reduced to a rumor and a myth. Abortions, according to research
conducted by the Mayo Clinic, are actually very safe when
discussing the possibility of having a future pregnancy.
The difference between a medical and surgical abortion is the
method in which abortion is induced. In medical abortions, the
woman takes mifepristone and misoprostol - both oral drugs - that
abort the fetus. This only occurs during the first trimester. In a
study conducted in 2007 by the Mayo Clinic, a test base of 11,800
helped conclude that using medicine as a method of abortion did not
cause infertility, premature birth, low birth weight, or ectopic
pregnancies.
A surgical abortion is one where the doctor uses either a vacuum
pump or a syringe to remove the fetus from the uterus. These
surgeries are all outpatient surgeries. Very rarely do they cause
scarring on the inside of the uterus or damage the cervix. It is
possible; however, very rarely does it happen. If it does occur,
though, typically does need surgical treatment.
As always with any procedure, there is some risk. Fortunately,
medical and surgical abortions have a very low risk.
Despite the fact that there is low risk for these two types of
abortions, though, doesn't change the argument about whether
abortion is right or wrong. The topic of whether it is right or
wrong is not one that can be written on a document. It is entirely
up to the woman who is considering the abortion. It is a case by
case basis and therefore, entirely up to her if she does or does
not want to have an abortion.
Medical and surgical abortions are two methods in which a woman can
abort the fetus. They are effective and have proven useful in the
past.
